PM presides over opening of Angola-Cape Verde Friendship Association headquarters in Luanda 11 Novembro 2015

Cape Verdean Prime Minister José Maria Neves yesterday presided over the unveiling of the Angola-Cape Verde Friendship Association headquarters in Angolan capital Luanda. The project was supported by the Cape Verdean government through its embassy in Luanda. During the opening ceremony, Neves said he hoped that “this space will become a meeting point, a place for dialogue, freedom and fostering relations between our community and Angolans, as well as yet another factor in strengthening the ties between our two peoples.”

The head of the Cape Verdean executive ensured the “full support” of the Cape Verdean government to make the space one of affirmation of the relations between the two countries, united by strong historical ties, their respective struggles for independence and intense cooperation and friendship.

José Maria Neves also highlighted the importance of these types of spaces for Cape Verdean communities in the countries hosting Cape Verdean émigré communities, saying that they contribute to bringing the diaspora closer to the country. “Cape Verde is a small country with an enormous soul. There is no Cape Verde without our diaspora community,” he stressed.

The Prime Minister also revealed that the government is looking into the possibility of making one of the historical buildings in Praia’s central Plateau district available for Angola to set up a Casa de Angola in the country to serve as yet another link between the two countries.
